Medical Requirements at Camp Lewallen

Each Scout and leader must have a valid medical exam to attend camp.  For Scouts and leaders under age 40, the exam must be less than three years old. During the second and third year after the physical, you should attach an updated Medical History form to the original.

For leaders 40 and older the medical exam must be less than one year old.

Leaders who will be spending less than 48 hours in camp during the week are considered visiting leaders and are not be required to have a physician's statement.  They must check-in at the camp office and provide a current health history.  Please note: Visiting leaders are not allowed to swim, mountain bike, climb, boat, or any other physically demanding activity without a medical exam signed and dated by medical personnel.

Medical forms are available on this website.

Standard school or sports exam forms are acceptable as long as they have the signature of medical personnel and a contact for their office (in case of emergency) and the date of the exam.

The following medical personnel are authorized to provide school medical exams in the State of Missouri, and are acceptable for camp medicals:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD),
  • Doctor of Osteopathy (DO),
  • Physicians Assistant
  • Nurse Practitioner.

Each Scout and leader will be given a medical recheck upon entering camp.  Medical exams are not available at camp.

Please be complete in listing any medications or allergies that your son may have.  Medications may be administered in the following manners as you choose:

  • If mature enough, your son may self-medicate.
  • We prefer that your Scoutmaster holds the medication and your son reports to him at medication time.
  • If your son's medication needs refrigeration or injection, the camp medical personnel should administer.  Your son will be responsible for reporting to the daily sick-call at the camp office.

Camp is not the time to take your son off or alter his medicinal requirements, especially those drugs used to treat hyper-activity or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Parents are responsible for the cost of any treatment that cannot be done in camp.  Non-emergency transportation of a Scout or leader to a hospital is the troop's responsibility.  In the case of an emergency, transportation will be provided by local medical ambulance with the cost borne by the parents.

Our Council provides limited accident and sickness insurance on a secondary basis through Mutual of Omaha.  The parent's insurance is the primary responsible party.  Any questions regarding the Scout insurance can be referred to the MacArthur Service Center at 314.361.0600 or 800.392.0895.
