21 - Spring Programs at the St. Louis Zoo: Want to spend the day at the Zoo and earn a Wildlife Academics Pin (Cub Scouts) or a Sharing Your World with Wildlife Achievement (Bears)? 26-28 - Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil Show: The Rock Hobby Club of Greater St. Louis is presenting its annual show at the Machinists' Auditorium at 12365 St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton. Feature exhibits include Gold Specimens by Glenn Williams and a display from Mastodon State Park, and a demonstration on the Flint Napping Art. Minerals, cutting materials, findings, tools, and other jewelry making supplies will be available for purchase.
Food and beverage service is provided; parking is free. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult are always admitted free, as well as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. A portion of gate receipts will be given to the AFMS Scholarship Fund and to GSLAESC Scholarship Fund. Show hours are Friday 4-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

27 - Confluence Trash Bash: Volunteers are needed to help clean up at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge and sites along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. School groups, service organizations, church and corporate groups, familes, and interested individuals will be working with area Stream Teams and over 60 municipalities in St. Louis and St. Louis County. Volunteers are needed both on land and in the water. Prizes will be awarded for the weirdest, largest, or most valuable items found during the clean up. 3 - 12th Annual Wetlands for Kids Day: Did you know that wetlands support over 900 species of wildlife, many of them threatened or endangered, in addition to providing us with clean water and flood protection? Come out to the Annual Wetlands for Kids Day at August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles and find out more through hands-on activities and demonstrations. Well-trained experts man each learning station to instruct participants and answer questions about various activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to work with retrievers, see live birds of prey, create wetland-themed artwork, explore a beaver lodge, learn to identify waterfowl and other birds, tie fishing flies, see and touch snakes, frogs, turtles, and more.
Hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Ducks Unlimited, and supported by a $25,000 grant from Monsanto, this event will be held on Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. All children who register will receive a free Ducks Unlimited Greenwing membership, which inclues a one-year subscription to the Puddler magazine. Participants also take home a gift bag containing fun prizes, additional wetland and wildlife learning materials, and a tree to plant at home.

16-18 - Heartland Conference of the AEE: The Association for Experiental Education Heartland Region would like to invite you to their 2010 Conference, held in Potosi, MO. They will be offering two pre-conference workshops: a 2-day Leave No Trace Trainer course, run by former Traveling Trainers JD Tanner and Emily Ressler), a 2-day Wilderness First Responder training, a 1-day Raccoon Circles activity training, and a 1-day Tree Climbing workshop. 23-25 - World War II Weekend at Jefferson Barracks Park: More than 350 re-enactors will portray American, British, Canadian, Russian and German soldiers in authentic World War II living history camps at Jefferson Barracks Park. Along with the soldiers, there will be a large collection of authentic gear, uniforms, weapons and vintage millitary vehicles on display. Highlighting the weekend are three battle re-enactments, held a short distance from the camp.
Troops are welcome to schedule tours on Friday, or for self guided tours on Saturday and Sunday. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, with battle re-enactments at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, and noon on Sunday. 13 - Jaycees Soap Box Derby: The local competition of the All-American Soap Box Derby is accepting entries for the annual Soap Box Derby. The race is open to boys and girls ages 8-17 (as of August 1, 2010). Entrants must compete in official Soap Box Racers, available for purchase from the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, OH. Winners of the St. Louis race advance to Akron for the international finals in July. Entry fee is $100 and is strictly limited to the first 50 entrants. Staying Home Alone - 2-hour class to help parents and children determine the child's readiness and to help prepare them for the experience. $20 per parent & child.
Helmet Safety Check - kids bring their own helmet and a trained safety expert will check it for a proper fit; parents and children will learn how to continue the safety practice at home. New helmets available for $8. Twenty or more participants required for this class.

CPR and First Aid - These American Heart Association participation and certification courses are for leaders and Scouts 12 years and older. Learn adult, child and infant CPR skills and first aid for choking.

Fixer-Uppers - Children ages 9 to 11 learn basic first aid skills. Meets Webelos first aid badge requirements.
Pre-teen Esteem - Children in grades 5 and 6 learn about self-esteem, body changes, making healthy choices and dealing with peer and parent relationships.
Safety Smarts - Children ages 6 to 8 (or grades 1 to 3) learn healthy habits and personal safety smarts. Includes germ-buster presentation with hand-washing light.
Sitter Skills - Prepares children ages 11 and older for a safe and positive babysitting experience.

The St. Louis Science Center presents the Life Science Lab Patch Program. In a recently installed Life Science Lab, Scouts can conduct experiments in an authentic lab setting, dressing in lab attire while extracting DNA, examining fingerprints and solving crimes.
