GSLAC Mourns Passing of Bob Meinholtz

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Robert F. Meinholtz. Meinholtz, who served as the Scout Executive for the Greater St. Louis Area Council from 1980-1995, died peacefully of natural causes on Jan. 28, 2017.
Bob was a professional Scouter for over 41 years, including the last 14 here in St. Louis. He came to the Greater St. Louis Area Council from Denver where he was the Scout Executive. His professional career began in California and continued in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Reading, Pennsylvania and then Denver.
During his tenure as Scout Executive in St. Louis, Bob was best known for expanding Scouting to inner-city and handicapped youth, developing Huck’s Cove at S bar F Scout Ranch and Cub World at Beaumont, making the Council facilities more handicapped accessible, adding an Exploring division, installing camp staff scholarships, and overseeing mergers with the former Southeast Missouri Council and Egyptian Council.
He was also instrumental with the development of Scouting for Food. He was honored with numerous awards throughout his life including the Silver Beaver Award and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.
