Boy Scouts To Honor David and Lelia Farr, 2016 Eagle Scouts
April 26, 2017
More than 700 Boy Scouts earned the rank of Eagle in 2016. These Scouts will be honored for their achievement during the sixth annual Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner on May 2 at the Chase Park Plaza. The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America will also honor David and Lelia Farr with the 2017 Soaring Eagle Award.
The Soaring Eagle Award is presented annually to community leaders who exemplify the Scout Law through their dedication, contributions, and passion for the community and Scouting. David, the CEO of Emerson, and his wife Lelia, a retired managing director with Price Waterhouse, have been active in a wide range of civic and charitable organizations in St. Louis.
The Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner is expected to draw about 650 Scouts, parents, and supporters. To date, the event has raised more than $650,000 for local Scouting. Money raised introduces thousands of youth in the St. Louis region to experiences that grow and foster self-confidence, respect, leadership, and service. These programs are designed to inspire, build character and instill the values that boys and girls need to succeed today.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program. More than 700 young men earned the rank of Eagle in 2016. Boy Scouts must earn 21 merit badges, serve in several troop leadership positions and display leadership by conducting a community service project. Since its introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than two million young men.
