GSLAC Mourns Passing of Long-Time Scouter Sandy Silverstein
June 12, 2017
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of long-time Scouter Sanford “Sandy” Silverstein. Sandy passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017.
An 85-year veteran in Scouting, we were blessed to have the opportunity to recognize Sandy’s dedication and commitment to the Scouting program in front of nearly 500 volunteers and Scouters during the Council Annual Dinner just last week on June 7. Sandy received a standing ovation for his service to youth as he was recognized as a Second Century Society member during this memorable evening.
A Silver Beaver recipient and an Order of the Arrow Vigil member, Sandy served as Scoutmaster of Troop 11 at Temple Israel in the Pathfinder District for more than 50 years. He served as an Executive Board member with the Okaw Valley Council. Sandy also planned Scouting programs for children at Ranken Jordan, a healthcare facility for kids with complex medical conditions. In addition, he was a long-time volunteer with Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
