December 01, 2017

The Boy Scouts’ 33rd annual Scouting For Food drive brought in 1.98 million items of food on collection day on Nov. 18. MERS Missouri Goodwill, Scouting For Food sponsor, continued to collect donations the following week pushing the grand total to 1,989,734 items of food in the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

This year’s Scouting For Food drive will provide more than 575,000 meals for those in need. All food donations stay local as it is distributed to a network of more than 500 food pantries and food banks throughout the region.

“On behalf of the thousands of Scouts and volunteers, thank you to everyone who generously contributed to Scouting For Food,” said Ronald Green, Scout Executive/CEO of the Greater St. Louis Area Council. “Seeing the community come together for an important event like this is truly amazing.”

Started in 1985 by the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Scouting For Food has grown to become the largest single-day food drive in the Boy Scouts of America. Over the program’s 33-year history, Scouts have collected nearly 57 million items of food.
