Lindenwood President Joins Local Boy Scout Board, Announces Eagle Scout Scholarship

April 24, 2018

The Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America recently elected Michael Shonrock, Lindenwood University System President, to its Executive Board of Directors. In addition to joining the board, Shonrock also announced that Lindenwood University is pleased to offer a $5,000 scholarship to any student who has achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

“Lindenwood University has always been a great partner of the Boy Scouts especially when it comes to STEM programs,” said Ronald Green, Scout Executive/CEO of the Greater St. Louis Area Council, BSA. “Most recently, the University hosted our Radical Robotics event where 150 elementary-aged youth learned how to build and program a solar-powered robot.

“Dr. Shonrock’s 25-plus years of experience in education will offer us invaluable guidance on how to best serve youth through the Scouting program. We look forward to benefiting from his expertise and counsel.”

Lindenwood’s Eagle Scout scholarship awards deserving Scouts $5,000 per year, renewable for five years. Those who are interested should contact Lindenwood University Admissions at 636-949-4949 or admissions@lindenwood.edu for details and restrictions.

“I’m looking forward to serving and supporting leadership development for the next generation,” said Shonrock, who was appointed as the 22nd president of the Lindenwood University System on June 1, 2015.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. There were 55,494 Eagle Scouts in 2017, including 762 in the Greater St. Louis Area Council. The path to Eagle requires Boy Scouts to earn at least 21 merit badges, serve in several troop leadership positions and display leadership by conducting a community service project.
