Nagel Base is home to the Equestrian Programs, located on the grounds of Beaumont Scout Reservation. The program boasts a community of horse enthusiasts and offers an array of engaging programs. We provide unforgettable trail rides, host private parties and events, facilitate Scout workshops, and conduct a thrilling summer camp.

On most weekends from September through May, horseback rides are available for Scouting units and other groups. Rides are in and around the rolling hills of the Beaumont Scout Reservation.
There are four program options, 1 ½ hour ride, three-hour program, six-hour program, and an overnight program. Each ride has a maximum of 12 riders with a minimum of 5 riders needed to run each ride.
Trail Rides are available Saturday and/or Sunday during the months of September, October, and December – May. Overnight rides are only available during the months of April, May, September, and October. All rides are weather permitting (i.e. rain, snow, severe cold, extreme heat). There must be two registered Unit Leaders per ride. Riders for trail rides must be at least 11 years old and registered in Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Exploring. For safety reasons no one can ride who is over the maximum weight limit of 230 pounds. Weight will be checked at camp. Rangers and/or trail guides have the authority to restrict any person from taking part in a horse-related activity who may pose, in their opinion, a safety risk to themselves, others, or the horses. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.
1 1/2 hour ride $45 per rider -
- Horses will be groomed and saddled before riders arrive
- All riders will be assigned a horse and given a brief riding demonstration before leaving the barn
- The trail ride is approximately 45 minutes

Three Hour Program - $55 per rider
- With assistance from the Trail Guides, each rider will groom and saddle their assigned horse
- The trail ride is approximately 1.5 hours
- Pricing for Non-BSA Groups - $65/person
Six Hour Program - $55 per rider
- With assistance from the Trail Guides each rider will groom and saddle their assigned horse
- The ride is approximately 4 hours broken up by a 30-minute lunch break
- Lunch/water must be able to be tied to a saddle (lunch is NOT provided)
- Pricing for Non-BSA Groups - $65/person
Overnight Rides $120 per rider
- Eat and sleep overnight out on the trail. Must provide food for the Trail Guides (two – three Trail Guides).
- Pricing for Non-BSA Groups - $130/person
Overnight Trail Ride Itinerary:
- Riders will arrive at the barn Saturday at noon and with assistance from the Trail Guides each rider will learn to groom and saddle their assigned horse
- The ride will start at approximately 1:30pm and arrive at the campsite no later than 4:00pm
- Riders will assist in watering and untacking. The riders will then have the opportunity to help in feeding the horses and spreading hay for the evening.
- After 6:00pm Riders are free to do evening activities/dinner (must provide dinner and breakfast for trail guide)
- Sunday morning at 7:00am Riders will assist in feeding horses at 7am and begin grooming and saddling.
- The trail ride will begin at approximately 8:30am and arrive back to the barn no later than noon.
Campsite :
There is a latrine, water, picnic table, and fire ring at the site. If the ground is dry a trailer can park at the site.
The group is encouraged/welcome to set up camp Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Returning in the fall 2026, come out to Nagel Base for a horse-drawn hayride! This is a great outdoor activity for Scouting units of all ages. There are two wagons available and each hayride wagon holds a maximum of 20 people. A minimum of two adults for the wagon is required. Hayrides can be reserved in one-hour blocks and come with the use of a picnic area.

- Saturday: 5-6 p.m., 6-7 p.m.
- $150 per wagon
Hayrides are not offered on Saturday nights during heavy camporee weekends.
A maximum of 20 people are allowed on a hayride wagon.

Horse Camp
July 26 – August 1, 2026
Spend a week at an intermediate riding camp cantering around the property and learning more about horses. There are many trails to be ridden, competitions/games to be played on horseback in the riding ring, and other activities to further your horsemanship along with a chance to show off your advanced skills in a Cavalcade at the end of the week. Other activities while at Horse Camp are swimming, range and target activities, climbing tower, challenge courses, campfires, and much more.
All youth participants must be Venturing age, 14 and out of the eighth grade. Maximum number of participants is 24. The Greater St. Louis Area Council Trail Guide Committee provides adult leadership for Horse Camp.
Saddle up for a scouting experience like no other. Open to Scouts BSA, this program is to help youth become more comfortable with everything horses! Learn about horse behaviors, equipment, and of course riding! Parents are not required to stay but are welcome to watch skills their child has learned during a horse show on the last day of the session. All activities depend on riding skills of the participants.
Each scout in the Junior Wrangler program will have the opportunity to earn the Horsemanship Merit Badge. Each session has specific age ranges, 11-13 and 14-18, so make sure you pick the appropriate session

September 2, 9, 16, & 23rd (Age: 11-13 year olds) Time: 5:30pm to 8:00pm
Price: $250 per youth (weight limit is 200lbs)
Special needs or requests must be disclosed at the time of sign up. You must bring a Health forms A, B, and C with you to camp. It is an attachment on your registration page.

Give your Cub Scout an unforgettable introduction to horsemanship! Open to Bears, Webelos, and AOL ranks, this program is meant to help Cub Scouts learn how to behave around horses, horse behaviors, how to lead a horse, discuss parts of a saddle, how to sit properly on a horse, and to become more comfortable while horseback. On Thursday the youth will have the chance to show parents what they have learned.
Each four-hour session has a small group size of 5 Scouts max per class. A minimum of 2 Scouts is needed to run each session, so sign up early and secure your spot! Parents are not required to stay. A snack is included.
