CPR Emergency Action Procedure Training (Red Card Training)

What is it?

This training is designed to introduce youth to CPR. While it does not result in certification and is not required for any specific merit badge, the skills taught are components of several merit badge requirements. For this reason, merit badge counselors and Scout leaders often encourage youth to participate.

Who can teach it?

This course does not provide certification and may be taught by anyone with a background in the medical field.

  • To find someone qualified, check the Merit Badge Counselor directory for individuals in healthcare-related professions who may be able to assist or connect you with someone who can.
  • Additionally, consider whether there is a parent in your unit who is a doctor, nurse, EMT, firefighter, first responder, or certified CPR instructor—any of these individuals are eligible to teach a course.

Why is it called Red Card Training?

The name comes from the training progress card, which was traditionally printed on red paper. It’s also a much simpler to say than CPR Emergency Action Procedure Training.
