It's Saturday so that means its time to recognize another one of our Superhero volunteers, Laura Hernke from the Boone Trails District!

"My favorite scouting memory so far was the first time I took my son and his den to Beaumont for Webelos Mini Camp. I watched as the boys learned and grew as young men in just a few days. As we were leaving they collapsed in a pile underneath a sign at Camp May that says “To This You Must Return” because they were exhausted from all the great activities that were offered to them. I am looking forward to taking my younger son to his first council camp at this summer.

I don’t know that I have a least favorite memory. Even when an event or activity is not going well or the weather is awful the Scouts always seem to make the best of the situation.

When I signed up for Leader Outdoor Experience(LOE) I had only been a leader for a few weeks. I headed out to spend the weekend outside and camp. The weather was extremely cold and I was not even close to being prepared. I have learned so much about camping since then and I wish I would have been a camper sooner.

Speaking of LOE, it was the most impactful training for me as a new leader. It changed my perspective on camping and made me more open minded to explore what the outdoors has to offer.

I am so happy that my youngest son decided to join Scouts. He was not a sports kid and was having a hard time figuring out what he loved. Scouting has been an amazing experience for him. My youngest son has autism and I have watched him go from sitting on the side lines to fully participating in most activities. Scouting has had a positive impact on my whole family."

Wow. What a story. Thank you Laura for sharing and thank you for all your time and dedication!
