Nestled in Southeast Missouri, beneath the majestic presence of Mt. Logan, lies Camp Lewallen—a pristine 580-acre camping haven. Moreover, the vast forest expanse spanning hundreds of acres embraces guests, crafting an unparalleled camping oasis for unforgettable experiences.
Places to Stay
Tent Camping
Year-round tent camping is available in the Camporee Area and on the individual campsites for Packs, Troops, and Crews. Outdoor pit toilet facilities are conveniently located throughout camp. Water is turned off to most areas of camp from October 15 - April 15. Please contact the Camp office to confirm water availability prior to your arrival.
Jarvis Dining Hall
The Earl Jarvis Dining Hall is a large climate-controlled facility open for reservations throughout the year (closed for summer camp). The hall features a large open area, a beautiful stone fireplace, and a large commercial kitchen known as "Kyle's Kitchen." Units may reserve the hall for both day and overnight stays. The hall does not have beds in it, but cots can be provided upon request.
Lodge of the Rising Sun Adirondack
Situated atop the towering Mt. Logan is the Lodge of the Rising Sun. This beautiful adirondack-style back country building allows groups to experience the beauty of this area while having a covered place to retreat. Accessing this area requires an approximately one-hour hike on rocky and steep terrain. There is no water, electricity, as well as no vehicle access or restroom facilities at the site; please plan accordingly. Units planning to use this area should be experienced with back country hiking.

Kyle Davidson Climbing Tower Complex
This great weekend program lets Scouts experience the thrill of high adventure while instilling composure and confidence in situations involving heights. The tower is available year-round for Scouts, Venturers and Explorers. The bouldering wall is available year-round for Cub Scouts. Units must provide a trained leader. Range & Target Activities
Camp Lewallen features large, open ranges for Rifle, Shotgun, BB, and Archery activities. Units must provide the trained supervision for these activities. Upcoming training information can be found at https://stlbsa.org/training/shooting-sports/.
Lake Potashnick
Come kayak and canoe on the picturesque Lake Potashnick. Try your hand at fishing on the stocked lake. The Bill West Pavilion is located next to the lake for convenient use, and a council ring also overlooks the lake and is available for units to use.
Anpetu-We Trail
A ten mile trail that offers an extraordinary hiking experience through the Camp Lewallen property. The trail is available year-round for Scouts BSA and Venturers.
Geocaching
A unique private geocaching experience that includes over 40 caches, found within 18 multi-cache courses. and included 15 “gadget caches” that require problem solving skills to get inside. Difficulty of courses range from Cub Scout appropriate to very involved. Bring some SWAG and trade up as you expand your scouting skills by find caches throughout parts of camp you may not know about.
To participate, you must have a personal smartphone with the following loaded.
- Avenza Maps App, a free smartphone offline mapping program, which can be used to navigate Camp Lewallen without a cellular connection.

During summer camp, simply go to the camp office, look at the geocache binder and select what courses you want to try. Camp staff can help answer questions you may have. Outside of summer camp, contact the Camp Lewallen Ranger to obtain the geocache binder and other necessary items.
Pioneering Kit
This one-of-a-kind program is designed to take a troop from basic knot tying to large building projects in the span of one day. The course promotes and develops Scouting skills and leadership. A pioneering kit is available for weekend use by Scout troops.
Dining Hall & Meeting Spaces

John Braswell Pavilion
The John Braswell Pavilion sits in the beautiful Pine Forest area of camp. It is a large pavilion capable of seating 80+ people on picnic tables. It is a great area for a cookout as well as outdoor presentations.
Bill West Pavilion
The Bill West Pavilion is located next to Lake Potashnick, offering beautiful views of the lake and quick access for fishing and boating.
Summer Camps
Camp Lewallen offers several sessions of Scouts BSA Summer Camp. A summer camp experience at Camp Lewallen features an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) program, floating on the St. Francis River, the Apex Program for older scouts, treks up Mt. Logan, and an Order of the Arrow Call Out ceremony you won't forget! Learn more HERE.

Anpetu-We Lodge Legacy Brick Plaza
The Anpetu-We Lodge of the Order of the Arrow is constructing a “legacy brick plaza” where Scouts and Scouters- both present and past, living and deceased- can be permanently recognized.
